Once in a
Lifetime, A Higher power creates a one of a kind gift. For
ten years this gift was entrusted to me to share with all mankind.
Listen to Once in a
Lifetime song
Derrick,
a 21 hand Belgium draft horse, 2300 pounds, was that gift to millions of
people. In 1991 he was listed in
the Guiness Book of World Records as the largest horse in the world,
but that tells nothing of the story of Derrick.
Derrick
participated in over 130 parades, 30 weddings, 2 funerals, 250 parties
for the homeless and disadvantaged youth, as well as hosted parties for
nursery schools, library reading sessions and was the featured guest at
several grand openings of schools, hospitals, western stores and of course
the lifestock show and rodeo.
Featured
at many fund raisers, team building sessions for Fortune 100 companies,
Derrick had an endearing trick that children and their parents just loved.
If
I said, Derrick, kiss the girl--he actually would.
But
if I said, Derrick, kiss the boy, he would emphatically shake his head
NO!
On
September 3rd., 2000 Derrick, at age 26, died with his four-
foot head in my lap.He succumbed
to cancer. He waits for all his friends
at the "Rainbow Bridge" where all our beloved animals play and wait for
their loved ones.He will always
be remembered with love.
